TidyMac Privacy Policy

TidyMac is made by Abdullah Emroze. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use TidyMac.

The short version

TidyMac does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.

What TidyMac reads on your Mac

To do its job, TidyMac looks at files and system information on your machine: caches and logs, installed applications and their support files, disk usage, and live readings such as processor, memory, disk and battery. All of this is read on your Mac, shown to you there, and never sent anywhere.

Scan results and your settings are stored on your Mac and are removed when you uninstall the app.

What TidyMac removes

Nothing is removed until you have seen the list and confirmed it. Files you clean go to the Trash, so you can restore them until you empty it. Uninstalling an app and emptying the Trash delete permanently; TidyMac says so before you confirm. Deleting an app that an installer set up for all users asks for your Mac password through the standard macOS prompt; TidyMac never sees or stores it.

Network use

TidyMac makes these network requests, and no others:

• Updates for your apps. When the Apps tab lists your apps, TidyMac checks whether they have updates. For apps that update themselves with Sparkle, it downloads that app’s public update feed from the app’s own developer. For apps installed with Homebrew, it asks Homebrew.
• Updating an app. Only when you press Update on an app installed with Homebrew.
• Speed test. Only when you press Test Speed in the menu bar, using the networkQuality tool built into macOS, which measures against Apple’s servers.

Like any web request, these reveal your device’s IP address to the server that answers, and an update feed request tells that app’s developer the app is installed. They contain nothing about your files. TidyMac has no licence key and does not check for updates to itself.

Children

TidyMac is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
